Conference on Russian nuclear industry sanctions

2023-04-25

Urgewald, Friends of the Earth Europe, the energy thinktank DiXi Group (Ukraine) and the geo-economics thinktank Eastern Circles (France) and ENERGOATOM, Ukraine’s nuclear power plant operator, have discussed possible sanctions against ROSATOM, the state-owned nuclear corporation of the Russian Federation.

More than one year after Russia has invaded Ukraine, significant sanctions against ROSATOM are still lacking. This is all the more remarkable given that the company is directly linked to the Kremlin and actively involved in the war effort. With the active support of ROSATOM employees, Russia has occupied the NPP Zaporizhzhia, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. The forceful detainment and torture of NPP employees in Zaporizhzhya are carried out with ROSATOM’s knowledge. The criminal behavior on the ground endangers not only the employees but also nuclear safety and security on the European continent.
